Filet of Soul
A recent comment by my friend Wot referred to our concept of the soul, and though we've been down this road before, it made me wonder...
What exactly are the components of a soul?
Is there a standard recipe? Some with extra ingredients? Or even a home-brewed definition? I'm dying to know.

Photos of Birds

Took a short paddle by myself on Back Bay today about 1:00 pm. Shot this with my underwater camera. Didn't go far -- just to an island across from the Nautical Center, i.e. Northstar Beach.
Do you have any photos of birds? I'll probably shoot more on Sunday.

Prostate Cancer
I got the idea for this post from the mammogram post.
Over 4 years ago, I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. The cancer staging was T2, which is still early enough to treat effectively, but a little bit more advanced. I've been in remission for over 3.5 years, and the oncologist says that my PSA is staying low, and I'm doing great with my recovery.
Prostate cancer is very common among middle aged men. Guys, if you haven't had a prostate screening, please have it done. A prostate screening is composed of a PSA test ( taking a vial of blood from your arm to check your PSA level)....and a DRE....digital rectal exam ( the doctor sticks his/her finger up your butt to examine your prostate gland) Prostate cancer tends to be a slower growing cancer, and when found early, in most cases is effectively treated.
Ladies....please have the mammogram done also.

New Game: Take One/Leave One
It's another Saturday night and I ain't got nobody, but I know I'm not the only one, so here's a new game to try:
Take One/Leave One
Examples: Flat Broke = You take Flat, add Tire to make Flat Tire OR take Broke, add Down to make Broke Down. Got it? You could also add Sandwich to Flat for Flat Sandwich, OR add Up to Broke to make Broke Up. Ready?
I'll start with Soul Mate . . .

Unplanned Eld-ancy
I think that if we stop and think about our caregiving - like we did when we were having children ...a lot of the anxiety we have is that we have an unplanned event - caring for our parents - like an unplanned child that adds to a very busy or financially strapped life...
When it was my parents - they didn't want my help...no one wants to be dependant and unable to care for themselves. Everyone wants to live independantly until their last day and die in their sleep. At least...I do.
If we just stop a minute and think about what our parents did for us (usually with a lot less education in a harder world) - and add up how much time we are actually helping them vs. how much they helped us - it does not even come close.
My parents helped 5 kids for no less than 15 years each. They needed us for about 3 years. And that wasn't full time.
How come it is so hard for us? Is it that it is dementia and that is such a horrible disease?? Do we have husbands, wives, children and friends that resent having to share us? Is it internal resentment? Seriously, why is it so much harder to take care of parents?

I'm losing Hattie!
Just came back in a few minutes ago! I went out and checked on everyone, I noticed the chickens had turned there water pan over. Then I noticed Hattie acting odd. Went and checked her over, and it looks as though she has had an egg bust in her! I have no idea what I can do, if anything to help her. I have heard of the egg getting impacted, but, I think this one has busted. I really thought she was a little young to start laying yet, and she seems so small! I am trying to keep her comfortable, I just wish there was a vet, in this area, that would work with poultry!! I really don't think the poor little thing is going to make it!
